Great experience last night at Policy Restaurant & Lounge at 1904 14th St NW, Washington, DC. Probably better known for their Brunch, we had good late night drinks and dessert last night at Policy. The crowd and vibrance was great, the drink menu from custom made cocktails to wine and beer was good. And the two desserts to choose from during late night were actually well suited. We chose the Fried Dough Balls (essentially a round donut) with a side of melted milk chocolate. Superb with Red Wine or Champagne. Delicious. Upstairs was apparently rented out for a private party. Liberty Lounge. However the bottom portion with Bar and plenty of windows overlooking busy 14th Street was nice. Service was really on point too. The Bartender this particular night was great! Super engaged with the bar patrons, fun, great personality, and very helpful with menu items that needed more description. A really good, first-visit, to Policy Restaurant & Lounge at 1904 14th St NW, Washington, DC! We'll be back for sure!

Context: Party of 2 on Friday at 9:30 Service: We were seated in the forgotten section. We asked a busboy to get a server for us. They gave us no plates for the potato appetizer. They brought our entrées as we were eating the potatoes. They asked how our food was very late into our meal, we were almost finished. If they asked at the beginning, we would have ordered a dish to replace the spaghetti squash. Food: Grilled Potatoes & Avocado Buttermilk Dressing. Spaghetti Squash. Smoked Duck Breast. The potatoes were boring, not bad but nothing memorable, and the avocado taste was nonexistent. The spaghetti squash is spaghetti AND squash, even though the server said it was spaghetti squash, and it was mushy, bland noodles, too much ricotta, and not enough squash. The duck was the highlight but the pineapple sauce was really sweet.
